A Lions Christmas Story
'Twas the third day of December and all through Eugene
The Christmas Spirit was abounding with colors red and green.
The pancakes were stacked and sausages lined up
In hopes that the hungry patrons would gobble them up.
Santa and Mrs. Claus had laps full of children who smiled a lot
and had pictures taken just in case they forgot.
How jolly the old elf and his wife were as the raffle tickets were bought.
Two bicycles were raffled off and wouldn’t you know
Two happy children would be riding two wheelers wherever they go.
So thanks to all who volunteered including Lions and Delta Gamma Sorority sisters
And thanks to all who came to eat,
Our fundraising breakfast was a big success, what a treat!
The Eugene Downtown Lions Clubs annual “Breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus” was a roaring success. The net proceeds of $2,000 is a 25% increase over last year. The meal consisted of fluffy pancakes, eggs, and sausage. The Fellowship Hall of St.. Thomas Episcopal Church filled up almost immediately after the doors opened and business was brisk throughout the more than 3 hours of service.

Lions volunteers cooked and dished out the food while Delta Gamma Sorority sisters from the U. of O. did the serving and bussed the tables as each group finished their breakfast. There were also table with treats and trinkets for sale. Lions Twila Butler and Judith Grosenick did a terrific job organizing this fourth year of the fundraising breakfast.
Children were kept busy visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as with decorating Christmas cookies. Mom and Dad were busy choosing from a table full of baked goods to buy for later Christmas treats.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were a big hit with the children and adults alike. Many pictures were taken with the children and even whole families. Many raffle tickets were sold both at the breakfast and to club members at meetings.
The prizes were two bicycles, one boys and one girls bike. The drawing was made and the first winning ticket belonged to Downtown Lions Club member Andy Bakr who was present for the drawing. He won one of the bicycles last year and gave it to his grandson. After winning this time Lion Mary Fechtel helped him find a needy child to give the bike to as a special Christmas present. The girls bike was won by Dale Bachman from the Springfield Lions Club. The club wishes to thank all of those who volunteered, attended, or helped promote this year’s breakfast. We anxiously await the next time we have breakfast with Santa.
